Care Advice

Pre-Treatment Advice (Wrinkle Reduction & Volume Replacement)

The Week Prior

Up to a week before your appointment, be aware of which medications you are taking, and:

o Avoid Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory (NSAIDs) medications such as – Ibuprofen (Nurofen/Advil), Aspirin (Aspro Clear, Astrix, Cartia etc.) or Diclofenac (Voltaren).

o In consultation with your GP, if suitable, avoid prescribed anticoagulants (blood thinning medications) such as Warfarin/Coumadin, Apixaban (Eliquis) or Rivaroxaban (Eliquis) in preparation for your injectables.

o Avoid Fish Oils, Vitamin E and any other vitamins or foods that have blood thinning properties.

A Few Days Out

Irritated skin areas cannot be treated with cosmetic injectables, so:

o Avoid any skin care that may contain irritant active ingredients, such as Retinols and Glycolic Acids (AHA/BHA).

o Avoid using hair removal products – waxing, tweezing, or depilatory creams.

The Day Before

o Avoid Alcohol and Smoking or Vaping.

o Avoid using hair removal products – waxing, tweezing, or depilatory creams.

o Avoid saunas / steam rooms, and do not partake in these activities on the day of your injectables.

If you do suffer cold sores, particularly brought on by trauma, discuss with your pharmacist the possible following:

o Taking the vitamin Lysine, a week out and a week post.

o Taking an over-the-counter anti-viral medication called Famciclovir, post treatment to prophylactically combat cold sore activation.

On the Day

o Hydrate and eat a decent meal prior to visiting the clinic. This will help avoid any feelings or becoming faint during your treatment.

o Avoid caffeine, this can increase the risk of minor bleeding and bruising.

o Arrive with a clean face, and depending on treatment area, men should come shaved or closely clipped.

Pre-Treatment (Skin/Microneedling with SkinPen Precision)

It is important to prep your skin appropriately prior to a skin needling session to ensure we are not increasing the risk of irritation/infection/darkened pigmentation or additional trauma to skin.

  1. Avoid excessive sun exposure 24 hours prior.
  2. Discontinue topical retinoids 24 hours prior.
  3. Avoid treatment on active breakouts or lesions (re-book once healed/closed).
  4. Allow 24 hours after any autoimmune therapies before skin needling.
  5. Wait 6 months after isotrentinoin use (roaccutane).
  6. Although not seen in a clinical study, Fitzpatrick skin types 4-6, pigment may darken before lightening (this will be discussed during consultation/treatment 1).

Post Treatment (Skin/Microneedling with SkinPen Precision)

It is important to keep your skin well hydrated after the SkinPen procedure. Microneedling causes a temporary increase in water loss so keeping your skin hydrated and protected during this period will aide your recovery experience.

  1. Apply a generous layer of LIFT HG after the SkinPen Precision procedure (this is  complimentary, no extra cost).
  2. LIFT HG may be reapplied additionally the day of the procedure to assist with skin hydration. Reapply, as needed, up to 24 hours post-procedure or until the product is depleted.
  3. Do not use any other products, including cleanser, on your skin within the first 24 hours post-procedure. Unexpected complications may occur when products not proven safe for use with microneedling are applied post-procedure. In lieu of cleansing your skin, you may rinse with cool water as needed.
  4. Begin applying RESCUE Calming Complex as needed after the first 24 hours to help soothe and calm the skin. RESCUE was specifically formulated for post microneedling.
  5. Strictly avoid sun exposure the day of the procedure as you will not be wearing sunscreen. You may return to sunscreen use 24 hours following the procedure. Continue to minimise sun exposure for 72 hours post-procedure.
  6. Avoid strenuous exercise or excessive perspiration for 24-72 hours post-procedure, as excess blood flow and sweat can cause discomfort and irritation to compromised skin.
  7. Avoid using any active skincare topical products, such as retinoids, vitamin C etc., for the first week after the SkinPen Precision procedure to reduce risk of irritation.
  8. Schedule your next SkinPen Precision appointment with your healthcare provider as recommended (generally every 4 weeks).
  9. Contact your health care provider with any questions regarding the procedure.
