The Week Prior
Up to a week before your appointment, be aware of which medications you are taking, and:
o Avoid Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory (NSAIDs) medications such as – Ibuprofen (Nurofen/Advil), Aspirin (Aspro Clear, Astrix, Cartia etc.) or Diclofenac (Voltaren).
o In consultation with your GP, if suitable, avoid prescribed anticoagulants (blood thinning medications) such as Warfarin/Coumadin, Apixaban (Eliquis) or Rivaroxaban (Eliquis) in preparation for your injectables.
o Avoid Fish Oils, Vitamin E and any other vitamins or foods that have blood thinning properties.
A Few Days Out
Irritated skin areas cannot be treated with cosmetic injectables, so:
o Avoid any skin care that may contain irritant active ingredients, such as Retinols and Glycolic Acids (AHA/BHA).
o Avoid using hair removal products – waxing, tweezing, or depilatory creams.
The Day Before
o Avoid Alcohol and Smoking or Vaping.
o Avoid using hair removal products – waxing, tweezing, or depilatory creams.
o Avoid saunas / steam rooms, and do not partake in these activities on the day of your injectables.
If you do suffer cold sores, particularly brought on by trauma, discuss with your pharmacist the possible following:
o Taking the vitamin Lysine, a week out and a week post.
o Taking an over-the-counter anti-viral medication called Famciclovir, post treatment to prophylactically combat cold sore activation.
On the Day
o Hydrate and eat a decent meal prior to visiting the clinic. This will help avoid any feelings or becoming faint during your treatment.
o Avoid caffeine, this can increase the risk of minor bleeding and bruising.
o Arrive with a clean face, and depending on treatment area, men should come shaved or closely clipped.
It is important to prep your skin appropriately prior to a skin needling session to ensure we are not increasing the risk of irritation/infection/darkened pigmentation or additional trauma to skin.
